F.A.Q.

FAQ
CAN MY CHARACTER LEAVE THE CITY?
  • Yes and no. Characters are allowed to leave the city to go exploring, if they wish, but keep in mind that there is a jungle full of dinosaurs outside of the safety of the city, and not all of them are herbivores. So while yes, leaving the city is allowed, it's not exactly advised.

  • HOW DO CHARACTERS COMMUNICATE?
  • Upon arrival, characters are presented with a PDA when they arrive in the basement at City Hall. The PDA functions as a phone and is capable of both of calls and texts messages, as well as giving them access to the Jurassic City Network.

  • HOW DO THE VARIOUS COMMUNITIES WORK?
  • [info]jurassiccity is where the mods will post game updates such as notices of plots, activity checks, roll calls, etc. [info]jurassiccitylog is for third person threads and narratives. [info]jurassiccitynet is the network, which basically acts as a message board. [info]jurassiccitycom is where text messages, presents for other characters, phone calls, and other things of that nature, such as invitations. And [info]jurassiccityooc is for out of character posts.

  • WHAT DOES JURASSIC CITY LOOK LIKE?
  • It appears to look like a modern city, similar to any major city in the United States. There are office buildings, grocery stores, apartments, houses, as well as streets, parks, and playgrounds. So really, it could be any city almost anywhere on Earth. The only real major difference is that it just so happens to be on a planet that's surrounded by a dinosaur inhabited forest.

  • IS THE CITY THE ENTIRE PLANET?
  • No. The city, while a large size, only takes up a portion of the planet, not the whole thing. The rest of the planet is inhabited by dinosaurs.

  • WHAT'S BEYOND THE CITY?
  • The rest of the city is surrounded by dinosaur inhabited forest, mountains, and oceans. So really...it's not advised that characters venture out, while they certainly can do so.

  • WHAT SORT OF DINOSAURS ARE ON THE PLANET?
  • Any dinosaur from the Mesozoic Era. So basically, if it appeared in Jurassic Park, then it's free game.

  • CAN THE DINOSAURS GET INTO THE CITY?
  • For the moment, no. The city is protected by a mystical barrier, so while people can get out, dinosaurs can't get in. Of course, this doesn't mean that it'll always be that way...

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY CHARACTER ARRIVES IN THE CITY?
  • All characters will arrive in the basement of the City Hall. There, someone will debrief them, check them for injuries, send them a PDA, and then send them out on their merry way. All they tell them is that they're in the city...but they don't tell them how they got there or who or what brought them there.

  • DO THE CHARACTERS KNOW WHO IS BEHIND BRINGING THEM INTO THE CITY?
  • No. As far as all of the characters know, an unknown being, or group of beings has brought them to the city. Will they find out who's behind bringing them to Jurassic City? Maybe, someday. But for now, it's a total mystery.

  • ARE THE CHARACTERS ALONE IN THE CITY?
  • No. There are locals in the city who have always been there. They can talk to the characters and have a conversation with them, but when pressed about anything regarding how the non-locals arrived, and who's behind bringing them here, they clam up and go quiet automatically.

  • CAN I PLAY A LOCAL?
  • No. The locals are strictly npcs, they cannot be applied for as characters. The locals run businesses and keep the city running, for the most part.

  • DOES MY CHARACTER HAVE TO GET A JOB OR GO TO SCHOOL?
  • Yes. Characters are only given a thousand dollars as a stipend when they first arrive, and after that, they have to find a job. There are plenty of local businesses that characters can work at, and they can always start up their own. There is an elementary school, a high school, and a university in the city. If characters are under the age of eighteen, they must attend school. Characters eighteen or over who wish to either finish their high school education or start college or more than welcome to do so.

  • WHERE CAN MY CHARACTER LIVE?
  • There are apartment buildings in the city that are provided for non-locals to live at, completely rent free. Characters can choose to live out in the city if they want, but their cost of living will go up if they want to live on their own in the city.

  • ARE MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF CHARACTERS ALLOWED?
  • Yes and no. With some fandoms, like Marvel, DC, and Heroes, there are established alternate realities. In those instances, multiple versions could be played, with permissions from the mods and the player of the first version in play. With other fandoms that have multiple versions, like book versus movie (ie - Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and The Twilight Saga), we do not allow multiple versions unless there is suitable difference between the versions (ie - True Blood/Southern Vampire Mysteries, The Vampire Diaries, and The Walking Dead).
